A method for determining the weight of an individual yeast cell.

چکیده
A method has been developed by which the density and weight of an individual yeast cell can be measured with a reasonable degree of accuracy. The average weight of yeast cells in a cake is rather easily-determined by weighing out a gram of yeast and counting the number of cells with a hemacytometer, but measuring the weight of an individual cell presents a different problem, the solution of which is presented below. A resisting force is exerted on a body falling through a viscous fluid at rest. If the body is a sphere and if the flow is streamlined, i.e., no turbulence or eddying occurs in the wake of the sphere, the force exerted by the fluid is expressed by the following equation:

In Vitro Binding Potentials of Bentonite, Yeast Cell Wall and Lactic Acid Bacteria for Aflatoxin B1 and Ochratoxin A
Background: This study intended to assess individual and combined adsorption potentials of three adsorbents (processed bentonite as an inorganic adsorbent, and cell walls of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and of the GG strain of Lactobacillus rhamnosus as organic adsorbents) for aflatoxin B1 and ochratoxin A under in vitro conditions. Methods: This study was conducted in Ferdowsi University of Mashh...
متن کاملPURIFICATION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF CELL WALLMANNOPRO TEINS OF CANDIDA ALB/CANS USING INTACT CELL METHOD
Virulence of the opportunistic yeast, Candida albieans, involves the interplay of many complex changes including the yeast-hyphae transition, which mainly involves protein changes. Cell wall mannoproteins are found to be the main cause of adherence of C. albieans to epithel ial cells in the first step of an infection process. In the present study, cell wall mannoproteins of intact yeast wer...
متن کاملProduction of Lavash Bread by Yeast – Salt Method and Determining the Rheological Properties of Its Dough
ABSTRACT: In this research, yeast-salt method was used to make flat bread dough. The yeast used for this process was Saccharomyces cerevisiae (PTCC-Code 5080), that was employed at the concentrations of 0.06% and 0.12% (w/w based on wheat flour). In order to carry out this research, a completely randomized design with three replications was used. Means were compared through Duncan's multiple ra...
متن کاملComparison of cell wall proteins in putative Candida albicans & Candida dubliniensis by using modified staining method & SDSPAGE
Background: Candida species are among the most common causes of opportunistic fungal diseases. Among Candida species, Candida albicans is responsible for most infections. Having many strains, C. albicans is very polymorph. C. dubliniensis is very similar to albicans species both morphologically and physiologically. For an infection to occur, cell wall proteins play an important role as they en...
متن کاملDynamical Analysis of Yeast Cell Cycle Using a Stochastic Markov Model
Introduction: The cell cycle network is responsible of control, growth and proliferation of cells. The relationship between the cell cycle network and cancer emergence, and the complex reciprocal interactions between genes/proteins calls for computational models to analyze this regulatory network. Ample experimental data confirm the existence of random behaviors in the interactions between gene...
